Both magical and ordinary children are prominent throughout the series. The Old Ones have four Things of Power that will be used in the final battle which will allow them to defeat the Dark: In this dreamlike novel set in Cornwall, magic often occurs during the hours of darkness and yet readers are not left with the feeling that experiences have been merely imagined.
All of the main characters from the gteenwitch books in the sequence come together in this book, some meeting for the first time, and the current struggle between the Light and the Dark is resolved. The Land of Neverendings.

It is blasted out of existence by Merriman after Will has read it. The Dark Is Rising cooperr, perhaps the best single book of the series, certainly rivals and sometimes surpasses the work of the major fantasy writers–with whose work it is frequently compared.

Jane is the focal point of this book. Greenwitch also features one of the things I love most about this series — the characters. I’m sensing that lots of myths and legends are being alluded to lightly or heavily, but since I’m not familiar with them they’re lost on me. The second book was of Will discovering and growing into his power; now we see him fully grown, as it were, relaxed and confident in his role as Old One, and the Drew children’s outside perspective on him is invaluable.
