Carmine Abate born 24 October is an Italian writer. He has written numerous short stories, novels and essays, mainly focusing on issues of migration and the encounters between disparate cultures. After graduating from the University of Barihe moved to Hamburgwhere his father had earlier emigrated. There he taught at a school for immigrants and began publishing his first stories.
Inhis first collection of short stories appeared under the title Den Koffer und weg! This was followed by a socio-anthropological study conducted jointly with Meike Behrmann ; their account of a community of Calabrian emigrants was published as I Germanesi. Having spent more than a decade in Germany, Abate returned to Italy and settled in Besenello in Trentinowhere laa continues to work as a writer and teacher.
Abate has published several acclaimed novels and short story collections. Two of his award-winning books have been translated into English – Tra due mari under the English title Between Two Seasand the novel La festa del ritorno as The Homecoming Party. His lx has also been translated into several European languages and is now being translated into Arabic. He is represented by the leading publishing house Mondadori. Calabria — Calabria, known in antiquity as Bruttium and formerly as Italia, is a region in Southern Italy and forms the traditionally conceptualized toe of the Italian Peninsula which resembles a boot.

Calabrias climate is influenced by the sea and mountains, mountain areas have a typical mountainous climate with frequent snow during winter. Erratic behavior of the Tyrrhenian Sea can bring heavy rainfall on the slopes of the region, while hot air from Africa makes the east coast of Calabria dry.
The mountains that run along the region also influence the climate, the east coast is much warmer and has wider temperature ranges than the west coast.
