Thanks for telling us about the problem. Eliyahj am not a huge fan of buffers; I prefer the use of calculated contingency reserves. Which means that if we decided to do something in one link, we have to examine the ramifications on the other links. How to manage project management constraints is pretty straight forward when you only have one project but if multiple projects, things become exponentially more difficult.
That said, the idea of using the critical path as the constraint, and then extending that concept to the critical chain, is an important insight.
I assume that most managers could find someone they could relate to in the book, but the star is still absolutely clear, the professor Richard Silver whom I wouldn’t doubt is derived a lot from Goldratt’s own life and experiences.
Reading it again, it appears that very little progress has been made to adopt any of the TOC principles to PM. No trivia or quizzes yet. Served with easiness that cadenaa you think about the topic.
Interesting, but less compelling than The Goal The surrounding narrative is a lot thinner in this one, which for me meant that I skipped over things without getting as much out of them. Critical Chain covers a few important topics: One won’t probably want to build a huge car park far away from a city without committing to build a whole airport. While I’m still k.goldratt bit confused about some of the things put forth in the book, I must say that this is easily the best format I have ever read for a business book.

More suited for project management – and maybe not the best in the field at that. Good and simple book that explains effective project management. He has a delightful humor as well. Lot’s eilyahu extremely important points, highly recommended.
Goldratt holds patents in a number of areas ranging from medical devices to drip irrigation to temperature sensors. It has been translated into 35 languages.
And the concepts are really potent–especially for very large projects. Those nee This is a book for already competent project managers who want csdena go to the next level. Lists with This Book. I think the phoenix project probably does this better but it’s still good. I just love a good business novel.

If you are familiar with The Goal and its definition of the concepts of throughput, inventory and operating expense, you may be able to anticipate how these concepts, which were applied to the manufacturing plant, should be applied to Project Management.
